Starry Eyes, You've Got...
Somebody recently asked on our facebook page for the lyrics to "Starry Eyes" off of our last album Hallelujiaville. This is one of my favorites songs we have ever recorded and strangely, probably received some of the best feedback as far as songs go. This is probably due to Adam Dale's angelic croon, but also in part because it was uncharted territory for our band.
We wanted to create more breathing room in Hallelujiaville, and for better or worse we completely accomplished that. Is it a more enjoyable experience than our big dollar recording? I guess time will tell. I will say that creatively, it felt really good to see it come to fruition and I wish more people could hear that record.
We arranged the track listing on the album to move thematically to move from some sort of "Sin" to "Redemption." This song is the last of three songs in a row dedicated to a relationship. Try thinking about it that way when you listen to the album.
Starry Eyes
Wake me up in the middle of my head
Soft and slowly, there's dirt on your clothes
Do you know? You don't know how much I love you do you baby
Its something that we could show
Turn me over and don't believe in anything
God is watching you while you sleep
Do you know? Where did you get that diamond pretty baby
Was it on New Year's Day
It's a long way home
If you gotta go alone
You're in no condition, to be on your own
You've got starry eyes
You've got starry eyes
Then it stops, and we all feel wasted
Drag the waters to see what you find
Do you know? You don't know how much I love you do you baby
Its something that we can show
Chorus
How long do we wait
I lie to myself everyday
oh allow me, this one last mistake
Chorus X2
Here is a video where I play it on a trusty acoustic.
Here is what it sounds like on the album.
